“VistA” system’s foundation consists of three major components:

1. Kernel; acts like a mini operating system
2. Fileman; is the database system for VistA
3. RPC Broker; is a communication protocol and medium, which enables the VistA system to have “Client/Server” extensions

MUMPS is the programming language a legacy language that was common 25 to 30 years ago has been utilized to develop Kernel, Fileman, RPC Broker and over 100 modules in the VistA system. In-depth knowledge of the VistA system foundation and MUMPS language is essential for analysis, design, and development and maintenance phases of the existing VistA modules or new software projects related to VistA system. MUMPS is a legacy language that was common 25 to 30 years ago. New developers have not even heard the name of this programming language not to say having the ability to work with it. SenVis Studio consists of multiple browsers. The Routine browser in SenVis Studio displays the Globals/Fileman files accessed within a tag/routine without requiring the user to read a single line of M code. Besides this the Menu/Key browser, RPC browser, and file browser provide a window to VistA Infrastructure information. SenVis Studio more than quadruples the productivity of Software Managers, Application Coordinators, CPRS/VistA Application developers, Fileman database designers/analysts and M-code quality engineers. The Menu/Key browser displays the hierarchical Kernel authorization mechanism and together with the Person browser giving information on the access of individuals within the system. One of the functionalities i.e. instant developments of file pointer diagram is printed on page 4 to illustrate the strength of this product and its utility for the designers and developers of future VistA.
